EMDR Therapy in Austin

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for trauma, PTSD, and stuck grief — with a Texas-licensed EMDR clinician.

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain finish processing memories that got stuck. It's endorsed by the APA, VA/DoD, and WHO as a first-line treatment for PTSD — and it works for a wide range of trauma beyond combat: childhood, medical, religious, and relational.

At Haven & Harbor, EMDR is offered in-person in Northwest Austin and by secure video across Texas, integrated with IFS when parts work supports it.

What EMDR looks like in practice

We start with history and resourcing — no reprocessing until you've got tools to regulate. Then targeted memories are processed with bilateral stimulation until they lose their charge. Most clients notice shifts between sessions.

FAQ

Common questions

How many EMDR sessions will I need?

It depends on what we're processing. A single-incident trauma can move in a handful of sessions; complex or developmental trauma is a longer arc measured in months.

Do I have to talk about the trauma in detail?

No — EMDR doesn't require detailed re-telling. That's one reason clients often find it more tolerable than talk therapy for trauma.

Is EMDR available via telehealth?

Yes, with adaptations. Some clients prefer in-person for the reprocessing phase; we can discuss what fits you.

Do you accept insurance for EMDR?

Yes — in-network via Headway for Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Oscar, Oxford, and Anthem.
